Mock Job Interview Activity: Preparing SHS Students for Future Success

In a world where competition is fierce and opportunities are often hard to come by, the ability to present oneself confidently in a job interview can make all the difference. Recognizing this critical need, Ms. Rachel A. Naguiat took the initiative to organize a transformative activity for Senior High School (SHS) students, a Mock Job Interview. This event was not just another school activity; it was a bridge between the classroom and the real world, designed to prepare students for one of life’s most challenging yet pivotal moments: the job interview.

Ms. Rachel envisioned this program as more than just practice. She wanted it to be an experience that would leave a lasting impact on the students, equipping them with the skills and confidence they would need to succeed in their future careers. To bring her vision to life, she enlisted the expertise of Ms. Jelyn V. Dela Torre and Ms. Althea C. De Villa, who graciously agreed to serve as the mock interviewers. Their wealth of knowledge in human resources and professional development ensured that the students received authentic feedback and guidance tailored to industry standards.

The day of the activity arrived, and the atmosphere buzzed with anticipation. The students had been given hypothetical roles in various industries, ranging from business and healthcare to technology and creative arts. They spent days researching their assigned fields, crafting resumes, and mentally preparing themselves for the interviews. For many, this was their first taste of what it would feel like to sit across from a potential employer, answering questions that could shape their futures.

As the interviews began, Ms. Dela Torre and Ms. De Villa took turns engaging with the students, asking questions that ranged from behavioral inquiries to technical queries specific to each student’s role. Ms. Dela Torre focused on helping students articulate their strengths and aspirations clearly. She encouraged them to think critically about how their skills aligned with the needs of the position they were applying for. Her calm demeanor and insightful questions allowed students to reflect deeply on their answers and refine their responses.

On the other hand, Ms. De Villa paid close attention to the nuances of non-verbal communication. She observed how students carried themselves, noting their posture, eye contact, and tone of voice. Her feedback highlighted the importance of body language in creating a positive impression. “Confidence isn’t just about what you say,” she explained during one session. “It’s also about how you carry yourself.” Her words resonated with the students, many of whom realized for the first time how much their gestures and expressions could influence an interviewer’s perception.

After each interview, the students received personalized feedback from their respective interviewers. These moments of reflection were invaluable as they allowed the students to understand their strengths and identify areas for improvement. Some students discovered that they needed to work on speaking more concisely, while others realized the importance of maintaining eye contact or pausing to gather their thoughts before responding. Each piece of advice was a stepping stone toward growth, helping the students build the skills they would need in real-world scenarios.

The activity concluded with a group discussion, where the students came together to share their experiences and insights. Many expressed how nervous they had felt before their interviews but admitted that the process had ultimately boosted their confidence. One student recounted how she had initially struggled to answer a question about overcoming challenges but later realized that her honest and heartfelt response had resonated with the interviewer. Another shared how the feedback on his body language had made him more aware of habits he hadn’t noticed before, such as fidgeting or avoiding eye contact.

Beyond the practical skills they gained, the students left the activity with a newfound sense of readiness. They now understood what employers looked for in candidates and had a clearer picture of the expectations they would face in the future. The mock interviews had demystified the process, transforming it from something intimidating into a challenge they felt prepared to tackle.

Ms. Rachel A. Naguiat watched the entire event unfold with pride. She knew that this was just the beginning. Inspired by the success of the activity, she envisioned expanding its scope in the future. Workshops on resume writing, networking, and public speaking could further enhance the students’ preparedness. Collaborations with local businesses and alumni might also provide additional mentorship opportunities, giving students a broader perspective on different career paths.

Through the Mock Job Interview, Ms. Rachel, along with Ms. Dela Torre and Ms. De Villa, planted a seed of confidence and competence in the hearts of the SHS students. As they move forward in their academic and professional journeys, they carry with them not only the lessons learned but also the belief that they are capable of achieving greatness.

This initiative stands as a testament to the power of experiential learning and the dedication of educators who go above and beyond to prepare their students for the future. Thanks to Ms. Rachel A. Naguiat’s vision and the expertise of Ms. Jelyn V. Dela Torre and Ms. Althea C. De Villa, the SHS students are now one step closer to realizing their dreams.
